Secret Weapons of a Research Lawyer: The Courthouse Library's "Book in a Box"

It’s hard to find time to get to the library.

I used to live a brisk 10-minute walk from the Courthouse Library in downtown Vancouver. I made very good use of that library. I was there at least a couple of times a week.

We moved in 2016, and now I live about 6km away. There are days when this feels like an insurmountable distance.

Then I discovered the good news: I don’t actually have to go to the library!

BC lawyers can use Courthouse Library’s Book in a Box program. If you are a member of the LSBC, they will mail you library books for free!

It’s so easy. First, if you don’t have one, sign up for an online library account here.

Then submit a request online to borrow a book. Select “free return shipping via Canada Post”. If the book isn’t in stock, you’ll get a call from a nice person at the library who will offer to put a hold on it for you.

The book usually arrives in 1 to 2 days. It comes with the return postage label.

When you’re done, drop it at the post office. Super easy.
